What’s Their Story: Crafting Dialogue by Observation

I was taking a break from playing my Druid who just hit 90 not too long ago, and was sitting in the inn at Halfhill. The Lazy Turnip is a busy place, with player characters coming and going, as people often log out in this inn in order to make doing their farming a lot easier. I think Blizzard has put a decent amount of thought into the interactions between the NPCs at this inn, because since I noticed, I spend half my time wishing that their interactions had audio just so I could hear the words behind this interaction. Maybe WoWMartiean, he of the infamous girdle, can make a video with imagined dialogue? We shall see!

Questionable Quests: Morals in Warcraft

In eight years of playing WoW, there have been many different quests.. Most comically legendary is the many flavors of poop quest, where we have to obtain items from a variety of sources, all of which seem to be poop, either ours or something else’s. These are the humorous ones, which make us laugh, and often gross us out. These are good quests, but there are a lot of other quests in the game, ones that might not leave us laughing in the end. What about the quests that lead some out there to question the influence of games on our minds, and our psyches? What I have been thinking about is the quests which leave us wondering if we did the right thing.

Big Changes for All Things Azeroth!

With the recent announcement of the upcoming CCG Hearthstone: Heroes of Azeroth, the staff of All Things Azeroth have found ourselves with no small amount of indecision. While we are all long time players of World of Warcraft, we unanimously agree that the new CCG will be the future of the Azerothian gaming scene. Therefore, with no small amount of pride and happiness, we would like to announce a rechristening of the show. All Things Azeroth will, from this moment forward be known as All Cards Azeroth, Your Hearthstone Podcast.

All Cards Azeroth will remain a weekly show, and while in the short term we may still talk about World of Warcraft, we will begin to transition the show to an all Hearthstone podcast. While you may have seen a few other podcasts that intend to cover the game, ACA plans to cover the game inside and out, with strategy, analysis and all the latest news out of Hearthstone. Jen, our former moderator, will be bringing back her Back to Basics segment, and providing all the info you will need as a newcomer to the CCG title. Moogyver will stay on, and will rename Spare Parts to Spare Cards, and be talking in depth about all the great things you can do with your duplicate cards in Hearthstone! Lastly, we will see Skolnick return with his updated segment, Hearthstone Less Played, an in depth look into all those rarely played cards, and their connections to the World of Warcraft!

We will soon have a new look to the site, but wanted to thank Nevik of Shattered Soulstone for the amazing work on our new logo, and all the work he and others have put in on the redesign of the site for the new phase of the show! We look forward to having you join us on our journey through Hearthstone, and welcome your emails, calls, and comments about this new era for the premiere show on Dawnforge Productions!

Choosing Your Poison: What to do at Level 90

If there is one thing that I think most of the World of Warcraft player community can agree 100% with is that we have never before seen an era of the game that had more options for things to do once you hit the new level cap. There is stuff to do for the casual and hardcore, pet collectors and farmers, and everything in between during Mists of Pandaria. Let’s take a look at the options for characters at the level cap.

Alt History: What if Jaina Became the Lich Queen?

Alt History is a new series of posts on All Things Azeroth which are going to take on a bit of a change from the Tin Foil Hat articles from WoW Insider, instead looking at alternative history, at what might have been if some things had occurred in different ways. Join us in imagining the way the game might have gone if things had happened differently.

Welcome! Let me first explain a bit about how this series is going to go. Each post in this series is going to do a bit of lore theory crafting to imagine where we would be now, if things had not gone how they did. We will first recall the way it did go, then look at what would have happened differently, and lastly try to figure out what the world of Azeroth would be like now if it had gone that way. I think it will be a lot of fun to look at and imagine. So, let’s get into the D.A.R.T.I.S (Demonically Advanced Robotic Time Influencing Shed) and go back…

Jaina, the Lich Queen. Has a nice sort of ring to it, doesn’t it? This post is going to theorize the possible alternative history where Jaina, not Arthas took up Frostmourne and eventually became the Lich Queen of Azeroth.

Caging Azeroth – A Question of Seasons

Living in Winnipeg, I am thoroughly used to being ill adjusted to the change in seasons. The picture above is taken out of my window on this, the first day of spring here. However, seasons in WoW have been fairly set in stone since we first saw them back in June of 2006 when patch 1.11.1 hit and the Summer Bass, a summer only fish, came to the waters of Azeroth. Until then we had no idea what seasons were in the world of Azeroth, considering the always winter zones like Winterspring and Dun Morogh, and the always summer ones of Tanaris and Stranglethorn Vale. From patch 1.11.1 until this past September, people have been able to plan seasons around these two fish. Summer from March 20 to September 22, and winter from September 23 to March 19. It was always the equinox that decided the shift.

Blizzard Announces Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft

Today in an announcement at Pax East, Blizzard has announced a new title, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, which will be an online Collectible card Game. Blizzard showed off the interface that has been developed by a tiny team of 5 developers, and the reaction on twitter was absolutely incredible. If you have ever looked at the WoW TCG and wished there was an easy to play and understand online version, as I have, I think this will fill that desire quite nicely. The game will allow you to play 9 different WoW classes, with skills, companions, allies and heroes much like the TCG does. You will be able to earn and buy card packs, which they currently to expect to cost about a buck for 5 cards, though that price may change as they progress through the beta process for this new game.
