Pondering Story Delivered by Daily Quest

I had a really interesting conversation with my buddy Joe via Twitter the other day, and I must say I was really intrigued by the path the conversation followed. Joe responded to my frustration that my realm once again had the Shieldwall dailies that take you into the cave, which I despise. I call those the broken gear caves, because I never fail to come out of dailies in there with a few pieces in red for durability. Once I even came out with all but my boots broken, and it was only through the spells on my Paladin that I was able to kill my last foe. Yes, this was on a plate wearing Paladin.

Review: Dawn of the Aspects, Part 1

Blizzard recently sent me the first part of the Dawn of the Aspects ebook which came out on February 13th. I was not sure what to expect, as I am unsure how I feel about the multi part eBook releases, and the story is one that I could imagine being done very, very wrong. There have been a lot of complaints about how the author, Richard A Knaak, has written for the Warcraft universe, and going back so far had a lot of risk that the story could be told too similarly to the previous ones he has written. Time travel would be the doom of the story in my view.

Thankfully the story did not take this route, instead going with a device that is much more plausible and less likely to force retcon on the educated reader. The book follows up on the end of the Dragon Soul raid, where the Aspects used all of their Titanic imbued power to bring down one of their own, the Old God corrupted dragon Deathwing. Now, months after those events, the former Aspects and their lieutenants are gathering at the Wyrmrest Temple for the annual Wymrest Accord, where they usually discuss the current issues plaguing the draconic races. An Open Letter to Thrall

Dear Thrall
Dear Thrall,

May I call you Go’el? I know few do yet, but I am sure they will adopt your true orcish name in time. Let me congratulate you and your wife on your new child. I am glad you are able to be just like any other orc, have a family, and move on from the stressful jobs of Warchief and World Shaman. Enough of the small talk, sir, there is some important stuff for us to talk about. There have been definite benefits for you of the changes that have happened in your life in recent years, but there have also been many costs to your people.

When you stepped down as Warchief to become the World Shaman, I understood the need. You worked with the Aspects to save the world from the aspect of death, and for that the world is eternally grateful. That move was not one bought cheaply, it cost us Cairne Bloodhoof, the aspects losing their powers, and many lives in the process of taking down Deathwing. When that was the price, though, I could almost accept it. Baine took up the mantle of High Chieftain of the Tauren, and the Horde moved on.

Review: The Art of Blizzard

I want to thank the folks at Insight Editions, and Blizzard PR for sending me a review copy of this book.

Blizzard art has long been one of the highlights of any title with their name on it. From the days of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, all the way to the art in the new Heart of the Swarm expansion to Starcraft 2, Blizzard’s art is world renowned for his high standard of quality and excellence. Hell, there have even been gallery shows of the art from the various worlds that Blizzard’s talented artists have made! The Art of Blizzard book highlights and shows this off in incredible form.

The Class is always Greener on the other Flame

Green Fire. As my co-host Rho will tell you, it is the ‘Lucy’s football’ to the Charlie Brown warlock class in the game. Warlocks have been wanting green fire for their spells since… well I think since they saw the fel fire of Outlands in Burning Crusade. Truly, the fel fire is something that should have been in the game for a long time, but I am not sure if Blizzard had decided that demonic fire was green until they began developing Burning Crusade, and by then the warlock class and their normal red fire was already in game. Just my guess.

Blizzcon 2013 Announced!

Blizzard this morning has announced the dates for the 2013 Blizzcon. On November 8th and 9th in Anaheim, as always at the Anaheim Convention Center, Blizzard is inviting roughly 25.000 of their closest friends to join them in a celebration of the greatness that is the Blizzard gaming universe. After the lack of a Blizzcon in 2012, I am certain that this year’s event will be even more anticipated and exciting than years past. As always there will be plenty of panels, loot for sale, high caliber entertainment, and plenty of games to demo, and no doubt there will be forthcoming announcements of reader meetups galore!

Blizzard has not yet announced ticket sale dates or pricing, though they do have their hotel package up on the Blizzcon site(when it is back up from maintenance). No doubt when the tickets go up on sale, they will sell out incredibly fast. Last Blizzcon took mere seconds to sell out both days that tickets went on sale, so look for a similar situation here. The community has been awaiting this date, and as of this writing people are already furiously booking hotel rooms and flights in anticipation of either buying or finding tickets to the show. We hope to see you there if we can make it, and look forward to seeing an amazing opening ceremonies! What are you hoping to see at Blizzcon 2013?

Thanks to WoW Insider for the header image while the Blizzcon site is down

Caging Azeroth – Tips to Successful Battling

If you are like me, it is very hard for you to hit the capture button on a pet when you don’t see that blue border on its portrait. When the pet you are hunting is a rare spawn, the urge to hit capture on it (or on an uncommon, or even poor pet), can be very tempting, especially if it could be awhile before you see another. It is even harder to accidentally kill a rare pet you’ve been hunting for, either due to over power or a damage over time. That last one actually hit hard when I was hunting for rares with pets that were all 3 or 4 levels higher than the targets. Below I am going to give you a few of my tips on hunting for pets in the World of Warcraft.
