Announcing the Give to Get Contest!

We at All Things Azeroth love to give stuff away. From pets to game cards, figurines to plushies. After awhile of giving away primarily through trivia, we wanted to give you all the chance to win in a very different way than, I think, any other show has.

We would like to announce the Give to Get Contest. This contest will run until 11:59 pm CST on June 13th. Now, some of you might think you know the idea behind this contest, but let me explain anyway. I want you, our listeners to send in an email. In the email, I want in 250 words or less an explanation of why someone you know deserves our prize package. That’s right, you are convincing us why someone else deserves a prize. The person getting this prize will get the following*:

  • Their choice of Gryphon or Wyvern plushies
  • Authenticator key fob
  • Horde or Alliance t-shirt
  • Murhawk
  • Quest Giver hat from Jinx
  • One Month of WoW game time
  • WoW Battle Chest

The person who sends in the email that convinces us to award that prize will get either a 60 day game card, or a pet store mount, whichever they choose. That is right, you may win by telling us to give something to another person! How novel, eh? Entries will be judged by the hosts, and the winner will be announced on episode 350, on June 17th. If the winner is in the EU, they will receive the prize in the form of funds via PayPal equal to the cost on the US store, plus shipping from there to a location in North America, which they can use to buy the items for themselves from the EU store.

One more thing… In addition, 3 people who send in entries will be chosen randomly to win a pet of their choice from our collection of codes. Even more chances to win! While Rho, Bella and Medros appreciate your kindness, please do not send in emails saying we should win, as those will be discarded. All other Dawnforge staff are free game, as is everyone in the wide community of Warcraft.

Runes To Require Less Lesser Charms

Early in the afternoon the official Patch 5.3 PTR Notes were updated with a number of changes aimed at shortening the grind required in various aspects of the game.

Just hours later, a post from Community Manager Bashiok indicated that one of these changes would be effective immediately following this week’s maintenance.

We’re deploying a hotfix late tonight that will reduce the number of Lesser Charms of Good Fortune required to purchase 3 Mogu Runes of Fate from 90 down to 50. Meaning when you log in Tuesday and purchase your 3 Mogu Runes of Fate, which are used for 5.2 raid boss bonus rolls, it will only cost you 50 Lesser Charms.

We recommend waiting until after the scheduled Tuesday maintenance to ensure this change has gone through before purchasing your Runes. Maintenance is currently scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 23, at 5:00 a.m. PDT. (source)

Players have been asking for help with the grind associated with gearing not only their first character, but whatever alts may follow after it. This quick update should make altaholics with multiple level 90 characters rejoice.

Personally I won’t be as affected by the change. My warlock has over 700 Lesser Charms, so basically this change means instead of being set for the next seven weeks, I’m good for twice as long. Funny thing is I’ll likely earn far more than 50 Lesser Charms a week just from what few dailies and pet battles I do.

That brings me to an interesting question. With Lesser Charms planned to drop off of level 90 and higher creatures in 5.3, is there even a need for the charm system the way it’s designed currently? It almost seems unnecessary to me to have this currency in the game when its almost effortless to obtain.

Regardless of my opinion, the change is a step in the right direction for a great number of players and further proof the Blizzard continues to experiment with how they approach endgame.

We’ll be hosting a live World of Warcraft developer Q&A open to the community on Thursday, April 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. PDT. Designers Dave Kosak, Ion Hazzikostas, Brian Holinka, Cory Stockton, and Greg Street will be available to field your questions about Mists of Pandaria gameplay and design, patch 5.2 and beyond. This will be a moderated chat on the Cover it Live platform hosted on the front page of our official site. Community managers Bashiok, Crithto, Daxxarri, Rygarius, and I will be there to filter your submissions for the developers.

How Expansions are Remembered

With Blizzcon recently announced as coming November 8th and 9th, and the hope and expectation of an announcement of the next expansion to WoW, I was thinking back to the past, and present expansions to WoW, and what they might be remembered for now, or in the case of Mists of Pandaria, in a year or two. Hindsight is very different from foresight, and this is never clearer than with WoW expansions. Each expansion to WoW has come with very different expectations looking forward than we have now in hindsight, and I wanted to look into that a bit.

Caging Azeroth – Choosing Which Pet to use a Battle-Stone on

Battle-Stones are, to me, one of the best and most aggravation saving items added to the Pet Battle system in the 5.1 patch, and are second only to the bandages in usefulness in the overall mini game. There are two levels of Battle-Stone available, in green and blue. For 1,000 justice points you can buy a Polished Battle-Stone that will upgrade any pet up to uncommon quality at the cost of up to two of it’s levels. I do not think I am exaggerating to say that I doubt these have seen any significant amount of pick up unless you desperately want to see a pet as a better quality, but have seen no flawless stones drop.
